The
String of Pearls :
disc 1-2 |
||||||
01 sukhasana
twist - 15:20 |
Class Notes: The first class in the series (recorded 1/9/08) hits the ground running with a very creative use of yoga blocks that opens up lots of new possibilities for movement, and follows with an energizing series of backbends. The spine, "the string of pearls", is explored in depth. It's an intense class, so please proceed with caution. Focus poses and explorations: integrated exploration and movement of the spine-- forearm balance (pincha mayruasana)-- many support poses leading to urdhva dhanurasana (upward bow) and dwi pada viparita dandasana (upward facing two-foot staff pose) |

Body
Relaxed, Mind Awake: disc 3-4 |
||||||
01 about
proportion - 3:05 |
Class Notes: A very inspired class (recorded 1/16/08) using classic yoga poses that return repeatedly to the bandha energies which are accessed, not through effort, but through relaxation and release. This class conveys a true passion for discovery in our yoga practice. Focus poses and explorations: accessing the bandhas through breathing and releasing in poses like prasarita padottanasana and supta virasana-- lovely viloma pranayama at the beginning-- undoing muscle patterns in savasana |

Breathing
in the Transitions :
disc 5-6 |

01 belly
bolster - 14:58 |
Class Notes: A class of surprises (recorded 1/23/08), and yet the kind of sequence which seems to come so naturally to Barbara. Class begins with a belly bolster to begin the deep belly work which stabilizes the lumbar spine, facilitates deep backbends, and becomes the center in balance poses. Focus poses and explorations: deep belly work and a wonderful abdominal sequence including navasana at the end of class-- interesting locust pose variations which are later mirrored in narajasana (dancer pose)-- attention to breath and bandhas throughout |
