Resting
While Challenged :
disc 1-2 |
||||||
01 resting
in the back body - 4:55 |
Class Notes: The first class in the series begins with constructive rest and evolves steadily into a deep exploration of how to stabilize the shoulders in a variety of standing, seated and inverted poses. As the title implies, the theme of conscious resting returns again and again as the poses become more challenging. This is a strong intermediate class full of subtle but extremely useful anatomical details. Focus poses and explorations: stabilizing the shoulders, resting in the back body-- half bound lotus standing forward fold-- supta virasana and supta padmasana |

Hips,
Twists, and Splits: disc 3-4 |
||||||
01 block
between shoulderblades (parallel with torso) - 6:52 |
Class Notes: This class does it all! An assortment of twists, classic standing poses, backbends, and hip-openers culminating in Hanumanasana (the splits) and a wonderful headstand variation series to finish it off. A feast of details and a brilliant sequence. Focus poses and explorations: integrated shoulder-blade movement, hip-openers and twists-- Hanumanasana (splits)-- sirsasana (headstand) leg variations |

Memory
of Freedom :
disc 5-6 |
||||||
01 lying
over bolster - 9:13 |
Class Notes: Barbara has admitted that, due to sustaining a neck injury, shoulderstand used to be one of her least favorite poses— perhaps that’s why she now teaches it so well. Near the end there is a very detailed and innovative sequence that goes from viparita karani (leg up the wall pose) all the way to full shoulderstand (salamba sarvangasana). This delightful class also includes challenging but fun twisting variations of triangle and dog pose. Focus poses and explorations: finding freedom of movement in frozen areas-- a beautiful shoulderstand sequence-- twisting dog and twisting triangle pose-- the energetics of Tadasana |
